• SCMP releases white paper on flow blockchain-based NFT standards

  • The South China Morning Post (SCMP) has released a white paper detailing its new non-forgeable token (NFT) metadata standard called Artifact. The standard will be used to mint historic NFTs, including SCMP’s own inaugural NFT series.

Artifact’s metadata structure will be built on the Flow blockchain, which was originally created by Dapper Labs, the makers of the popular NBA Top Shot video NFT, SCMP said.

The Artifact whitepaper outlines a proposed governance structure, as well as the development of a dedicated marketplace to sell historical NFTs.

Nanhua, which was acquired by Chinese tech giant Alibaba in 2016, first announced its plans to develop Artifact back in July.

“With our Artifact white paper, we look forward to inspiring other ‘history keepers’ to share our vision of making history more discoverable, connectable and collectable,” Gary Liu, chief executive of South China Morning Post, said in a statement.

“We are proud of SCMP for launching this visionary project, and we are thrilled that they have chosen Flow as the basis for Artifact’s launch protocol,” said Mickey Maher, Senior Vice President of Partnerships at Dapper Labs.
