• Chinese payments giant Alipay finds buyer for new NFTs

  • Alipay, one of China’s leading payment apps, has once again launched an unforgeable token artwork designed as wallpaper for users’ payment password pages, and 80,000 copies of both versions combined have sold out in a single day.

    Alipay yesterday began selling two versions of the artwork – built on its own Antchain – featuring the popular Chinese animated movie “The Legend of the White Snake 2: The Legend of the Green Snake,” which was shown on the big screen last month.

    Buyers can get the artwork for 10 Alipay points plus 9.9 yuan ($1.53).

    The latest sale came after Alipay successfully placed NFT artwork adapted from images of flying apsaras and sacred deer from the Thousand Buddha Caves, or Mogao Caves, in the Chinese city of Dunhuang in June.

    Founded in 2015, Anthem prides itself on its flagship products, including Ant Group’s Blockchain-as-a-Service cloud service platform and OpenChain, a hybrid permissionless/privileged chain for developers building decentralized applications.

    Ant Group, the fintech subsidiary of e-commerce giant Alibaba, has invested heavily in blockchain technology. It is among the top industrial zone blockchain companies in China in 2020, according to a full year of observation and analysis of the company’s data. It has also partnered with China’s central bank to develop e-CNY, a prototype of China’s state-run digital currency.

    In June, Ant Group launched the Blockchain Transport Network, a high-speed, long-range blockchain communication technology that is expected to help improve the data throughput and stability of the blockchain.
