FC Barcelona has partnered with Ownix to debut its non-counterfeitable tokens, the NFT series, with a focus on strengthening its connection to a global audience.
The series will showcase historic moments from the club’s 122-year history, which, according to Wikipedia’s archive data, includes 95 glorious trophies of domestic and international victories, including 26 National League and five UEFA Champions League titles.
These digital assets will be facilitated through Ownix’s marketplace, which is expected to launch in the last week of November using the platform’s native ERC-20 token, ONX.
Guy Elhanani, CEO of Ownix, was interviewed to gain exclusive insight into the partnership.
Will the NFT Collection be immediately available to Barcelona fans worldwide, or will it be made available to season ticket holders and other core groups in advance?
“We will open our collection to all Barca fans and anyone around the world, we are not limited to the fan base.”
NFTs are being rapidly adopted in the sports sector, not just because of their lucrative financial appeal, but also as an opportunity to engage fans and supporters around the world in a more immersive and personal experience. Companies like Dapper Labs, Sorare and Socios have all made considerable inroads into this emerging space, working with some of the world’s top professional leagues, clubs and athletes.
Sorare, the ethereum-based NFT marketplace, recently signed a partnership with Spain’s top soccer team La Liga to launch digital cards for players, as well as the corresponding German league, the Bundesliga, to launch digital moments.
The platform reported over $170 million in transactions throughout 2021 and expects that number to double before the year is out.
How will these assets be launched on the market? At Dutchman’s auctions, limited edition drops, minting events, etc…?
“The first five NFTs will be launched at the mint event, which will take place at the FCB facility in the coming weeks. In the first few weeks after launch, the platform will offer unique items as NFTs. further down the line, limited editions and series will also be auctioned.” Related.
