Acclaimed filmmaker and comic book writer George C. Romero, son of the late George Romero, a legend of the zombie genre, is resurrecting the dead on the pages with an exclusive movie NFT collectible. Dubbed “Rise”, NFT was created in collaboration with Heavy Metal Entertainment, publisher of the sci-fi and fantasy comic book magazine Heavy Metal.
The drops are based on the Rise comic series, which are a prologue to his father’s classic zombie story, Night of the Living Dead. The story played a prominent role in zombie culture, forever changing the image of zombies in film, television, video games, comics, and more.
“Rise” NFT tells the story of the project’s formation in the form of a documentary-style animated video, voiced by Romero and featuring stunning artwork by Diego Yapper. In this motion comic short, Romero describes his journey to create “Rise” and his father’s legacy to the zombie genre and his artistic career.
Romero is a master of entertainment and artistic expression, having worked with major brands and on hundreds of commercial campaigns over the past 30 years. He has also served as a business advisor and mentor to new filmmakers, content creators and entrepreneurs.
“NFTs is one of the most exciting new spaces for me,” he says.” Launching ‘The Rise’ NFTs with Heavy Metal on Crypto.com is the kind of next generation moment for a brand that has been going strong for five decades. I love the excitement that comes from Romero’s collaboration with Heavy Metal. Creating this project with Matthew Medney has been one of the most radical projects I’ve had the pleasure of realizing. I’m very excited to see the future of our two legacy brands take such a big hit.”
NFT will drop on the Crypto.com NFT Marketplace by Halloween, October 27th. This is Heavy Metal’s second highly anticipated NFT sale on Crypto.com, with their first drop selling out in 12 minutes. Romero’s collection is the main event of Crypto.com NFT’s exclusive Halloween-themed lineup called “HODLween Week”.
