• Dapper Labs Launches Football Version of NBA Top Shot

  • In September, Dapper Labs announced it had struck a deal to translate its hugely successful NBA Top Shot formula to professional football, partnering with the National Football League and NFL Players Association to launch an NFL-branded NFT platform.

Now we know what they’re calling it.Dapper’s new platform is named NFL All Day, and it’s still scheduled to launch sometime during the current NFL season.

Running on the same Flow blockchain as Top Shot, NFL All Day will debut in a closed beta first before being made available to the wider public. Potential collectors can sign up for early access via a waiting list.

Functionally, NFL All Day appears to be very similar to Top Shot’s approach, focusing on collecting NFT “moments” from official video highlights of top league games.

An NFT is like a blockchain-based ownership deed for a digital project, while each Top Shot moment ranges from hundreds to tens of thousands of individually numbered pieces.

Dapper revealed that the first NFL All Day Pack will feature top players such as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf. Other players who will be featured in the first package include Trevon Diggs, Marquise Brown, Nick Chubb, Davante Adams, and Josh Allen.

Caty Tedman, head of partners at Dapper Labs, told women , signing to the NFL is the “holy grail” of American sports, and the deal “came very quickly” before it was announced.

The NFL has been significantly slower to accept the NFT compared to the NBA or Major League Baseball.

While NFL All Day appears to follow a familiar format, Tedman told WOMEN , it will be programmed “in a very different way than we program the Top Shot”. She noted that the league’s schedule is week-to-week as opposed to the NBA’s more frequent game format, plus there are more players on the field and various strategic nuances.

Earlier this year, NBA Top Shot helped propel NFTs into the mainstream, generating more than $780 million worth of secondary market sales. The bulk of that volume occurred in February and March, with fewer buyers in recent months amid falling Top Shot NFT prices, even as the platform welcomed the WNBA.

Dapper has a series of upcoming sports-centric events as it has expanded beyond the NBA. In addition to NFL All Day, the company is developing NFT platforms for the Spanish La Liga soccer league and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
