Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has partnered with luxury digital marketplace UNXD to launch its exclusive NFT collection.
High fashion meets NFT
Luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana took to Twitter to unveil their latest NFT collection, called Collezione Genesi (or Genesis Collection). The collection includes one-of-a-kind pieces designed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The brand also confirmed that this “museum-quality” 9-piece collection will form the basis for future projects in the NFT space, and winning collectors and movers can look forward to more digital collections from the brand on the UNXD platform.
The NFTs were presented at the Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioelleria fashion shows in Venice and will highlight the rich heritage of the Venetian artistic tradition. With the launch of this collection, the designer duo expects to introduce one-of-a-kind handmade fashion and jewelry that can be experienced in the digital realm.
“We believe this series represents the future of NFTs. A way for the metaverse and universe to not only coexist, but to both merge and add together. We have spent a lot of time thinking about how to create an amazing experience for our collectors and community.”
D&G NFT auction date announced
The brand further announced the auction dates for the series, which will begin on September 20, with different end dates set for each project category on the UNXD platform from September 28-30.UNXD, powered by Polygon’s Full Stack extension, will provide a carbon-negative platform that will mint NFTs on Layer 1 Ether and auction them in ETH.
The collection will feature digital versions of five physical pieces (two dresses, a menswear set, and two crowns.) The remaining four items in the NFT collection are completely custom virtual designs. All nine pieces are available in the metaverse, a virtual environment where people can interact with others in a digital space.
Confirming the news, even Polygon tweeted.
“Dolce & Gabbana’s historic one-of-a-kind NFT airdrop, designed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana themselves, is available exclusively at UNXD, courtesy of Polygon.”
A future-oriented fashion dream
The fashion house announced their NFT project back in July, when they also shared the inspiration behind the collection, which was born out of a dream.L’abito dei Sogni, or “Clothes from a Dream,” is actually two pieces of clothing: one in gold and one in silver, both encrusted with gorgeous embroidered images of colorful, hand-blown wine glasses. Each piece from the collection will be auctioned off as an NFT package, which includes physical and digital versions, original sketches by the designer duo, multiple passes to future D&G shows, and other perks.
