• FTX to Launch “NFT Lotería” Game on Solana to Fund Hispanic Engineer Project

  • Lotería has been a popular game in Mexico for centuries, and soon it will jump into the cryptocurrency world as well. Today, cryptocurrency exchange FTX and crypto gaming company Animoca Brands announced plans to create an NFT-centric version of the game that will launch on the Solana blockchain.

Called NFT Lotería, the project will transform bingo-like games into an NFT-powered experience. Blockchain technology company Snickerdoodle will develop the NFT collection, which is scheduled to launch worldwide exclusively through FTX’s NFT Marketplace in early December.Animoca and Snickerdoodle will develop games around NFT “in the coming months.”

NFT works like a deed of ownership to a verifiably scarce digital item. While the technology is popular for personal photos, digital illustrations and video clips, it can also be used in blockchain-based video games to create rare and unique interactive game items.

Axie Infinity is the leading ethereum-based video game and has generated over $2.4 billion worth of NFT transactions to date (according to CryptoSlam), making it the largest such NFT project by this measure. Other current NFT games include fantasy football experience Sorare and card scrambler Gods Unchained. In addition to NFT Lotería, Solana will host other upcoming games such as Star Atlas and Aurory.

The NFT Lotería collection will feature artwork by Spanish artists, and Snickerdoodle shared examples of said images as concept art that will serve as inspiration for the artists to make the final NFT. The project is open for applications to other artists.

The project will benefit non-profit organizations focused on educating and training young Hispanic American engineers, with a particular focus on encouraging blockchain development. These nonprofits include the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Rising Tide Network, and Latino Community Foundation.

NFTs will be key to accessing the Metaverse – and beyond

“We see NFTs as stores of culture, and culture becomes richer when it meets other cultures,” said Yat Sui, executive chairman of Animoca Brands, in a press release.” With its emphasis on highlighting artists from U.S. Hispanic and broader Latino backgrounds, NFT Lotería not only creates opportunities for the Hispanic community, but also enriches the entire Network 3.0 ecosystem by introducing new and diverse worldviews and cultural elements.”

Animoca Brands has become a major player in cryptocurrency gaming, not only as a publisher of its own games (such as the upcoming The Sandbox), but also as an investor in a range of projects, including Axie Infinity, Star Atlas, and Aurory. the company raised 1.388 million dollars this year from Coinbase Ventures and Samsung, among other Investors have raised $138.8 million, valuing Animoca at $1 billion.
