South Korea’s Sungkyunkwan University will issue non-fungible token (NFT) certificates to three students who won in-school competitions at the institution’s upcoming online graduation ceremony on Wednesday.

Sungkyunkwan University said NFT certificates can be used any time as official proof of graduation without the risks of losing the original or fear of forged copies.

South Korean conglomerate Samsung joined the university’s foundation as a main partner and sponsor in 1996, renewing a previous partnership from the ‘60s and ‘70s.

South Korean universities, such as Soongsil and Chung-Ang University, have recently partnered with local blockchain developers for incorporating NFT and metaverse technologies into their graduation services.

Sungkyunkwan University will adopt blockchain technology to issue other kinds of certificates as part of its digital transformation.
