• Tezos to present NFT exhibition at influential Art Basel Miami Beach

  • Tezos will host a multifaceted Non-Fungible Token (NFT) exhibition at Art Basel Miami Beach 2021, the open source blockchain platform and the influential art fair jointly announced.

In the more than 2,500 square feet of exhibition space set aside for NFT, the exhibition will feature artworks by artists using the Tezos platform, some of which are interactive. It will also include speakers and panel discussions on issues related to NFTs expanding presence in the art world.Tezos has also signed on as a partner for Art Basel Miami Beach 2021. This year’s event will take place Dec. 2-4 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“We’re in a new frontier for art,” Mark Soares, CMO and founder of Blokhaus, the Tezos spinoff that does marketing and communications for the platform, told us.” This experience can bridge the gap between two worlds, focusing on the great artists budding in the work chain category and bringing them to new audiences. What we are trying to achieve is to shine a spotlight on the art category in the cryptocurrency world at Art Basel, which has a significant reputation.”

With its low transaction fees and energy efficiency, Tezos has become a popular choice for artists and big brands to build their NFT programs. In June, auto racing major McLaren said it would build a non-forgeable token (NFT) platform on the Tezos blockchain. Honda Red Bull Racing, music-focused NFT platform OneOf, marketplace Kalamint and rapper Doja Cat are among those who have minted, hosted and traded NFTs on Tezos.

Art Basel Miami Beach, a nearly two-decade old annual offshoot of the original Art Basel in Switzerland, ranks among the world’s most important art events, regularly showcasing new artists and trends. The 2019 event, the last held before the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s show, attracted more than 80,000 people and collectors from 70 countries.

Art Basel itself welcomed NFT last month, with cryptocurrency artist Oliver Allen selling one of her works for about $29,000 on the opening day of the event. Allen called NFT’s showing at the Swiss fair “a huge milestone in its acceptance as an artistic medium on par with painting and sculpture.”

Tezos will finalize its roster of artists for Art Basel Miami Beach by the end of October, Suarez said. Speakers and panels will cover topics such as NFT ownership and the growth of the art community, which will be broadcast live. “This is our way of saying cryptocurrency art is here, it’s the real deal, let’s talk about it,” he said.
