• Wayne Rooney NFTs of the footballer’s caricature are available on Blockasset

  • England and Manchester United’s top goal scorer of all-time, Wayne Rooney, jumps on the NFT hype dropping affordable NFTs. The Derby County manager Rooney went to Twitter. Changing his profile picture to one of the caricatures, leaving football and NFT fans in a whizz.

Rooney is arguably one of the best footballers to have ever played, scoring 290 goals in his steady career. And now he is adding a focus on digital art in an unpredictable move. Heading to Twitter, Rooney promoted the drop of his NFT collection. He changed his profile picture to a caricature of himself holding a football.

He has understandably decided to team up with athlete-verified NFT platform Blockasset. Known for releasing exclusive athlete content. In addition, they have worked with household names such as Muhammad Ali and Michael Bisping, to name a few. Subsequently, Blockasset has a collection of Legends who make up the caricature NFTs. The collection hosts 10,000 generative NFTs in total. Meanwhile, each legend has 2,000 NFTs with their own characteristics and traits, including Rooney.

Usually, when someone makes a collection the first question on their mind is, will this line my pockets? Seemingly not with this collaboration. £40 is the initial asking price for the Wayne Rooney NFTs. Compared to many collections, that is cheap as chips. Whilst the initial sale is low, seeing the NFTs back on the market for a higher price is expected.

Blockasset showed that this is a meaningful and nostalgic experience to them, stating “It is inspired by childhood memories of opening sports cards and stickers, not knowing which athlete you’ll land.” Following that, Rooney is matching their excitement and eagerness to get the NFTs in people’s possession.
