Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert has joined the list of legendary athletes who have taken advantage of NFTs. His debut collection includes three top moments from his career and sold a total of 12.68 WETH, or about $50,000!

This week, the famous Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert joined the NFT trend, much to the delight of his fans. Therefore, the Jumbo-Visma team leader auctioned off three animated NFTs on Tuesday night via the dedicated platform Momentible.

2019 Strade Bianche 2019 Mont Ventoux 2021 Tour de France
The launch was a win in itself as Wout van Aert’s Mont Ventoux NFT sold for 4.2 WETH (an ethereum cryptocurrency), or about $16,880. Meanwhile, his Champs-Elysees asset sold for 4 WETH ($16,000), while the Strade Bianche token received the highest price, selling for 4.48 WETH, or $18,000.
All in all, the auction raised a whopping $50,000 – an impressive debut for the athletes on the NFT stage.Wout van Aert and Jumbo-Visma will receive a portion of the proceeds, as well as 10% of all secondary sales of the collection.
Sports NFT, a growing trend
As the NFT market explodes over the summer, we’ve seen a lot of well-known sports figures join the trend.
For example, Euro 2020 football champions the Italian Football Federation launched $ITA fan tokens this month. The launch took place via the Socios platform – which is also known for hosting the NBA’s Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and more.
Wout van Aert’s NFTs were launched through Momentible, an NFT platform curated specifically for athletes and musicians. Now, the startup has also launched two NFTs for marathoner Eliud Kipchoge.
